HIRING PROCESS CLOSED !
The KhmerOS program has just promoted two members of its localization team to higher responsibilities, and it is currently seeking qualified candidates to fill in two positions as Open Source Software Translators.
The main responsibility of these two positions is to ensure that new versions of the Open Source software that is now being used by education, government and civil society are translated from English to Khmer language.
The selected candidates will become part of the KhmerOS team, a young and dynamic group of professionals who believe that they can help Cambodian society reduce its economic differences by giving access to ICT to all its citizens, and that the best way of doing it is to produce free software in Khmer language.
The main skill for these positions is not being an accomplished computer scientist (a good level of computer literacy is of course necessary), but to be able to write Khmer well, and to know the English language sufficiently well to clearly understand the texts to translate (must be fluent in English). Candidate who are also well versed in Computer Science have added value for the team, and much more if they are familiar with the Linux operating system. Experience in translation is also highly appreciated.
The KhmerOS team has a productive and motivated work environment, were respect for the other members of the team is the norm, and this respect will be given to and expected from successful candidates. We seek new colleagues who are motivated to work in a social project and who can integrate themselves in such a team, who have time-management skills and are able to work with little supervision.
KhmerOS is run by the Open Institute, a local non-governmental and not-for-profit organization whose mission is to support the economic development of Cambodia by ensuring widespread and fair access to information technology.
The Open Institute presently runs six programs: KhmerOS, Open Schools, E-learning, Women, Publications and Lexicography.
If you think that you fit this description, and that you are qualified, we invite you to submit a CV and a cover letter to House 19 Street 374, Sangkat Tuol Svay Prey I, Khan Chamkarmorn, Phnom Penh. Application closing date is 28/Oct/09 at 11:30. For further inquiry: 023 224 821. Only short-listed candidates will be contacted. Qualified women are encouraged to apply.

For me, it's worth working at KhmerOS.
I am proud that I used to work there and supervised by the KhmerOS coordinator, who is very good at project management. With his time-management skill and planning, the synergy of the KhmerOS team is very productive. I believe that the project have helps many young Cambodians who are English illiterate access to ICT and it really impacts ICT in Cambodia.
