"How to" extract .dic file from OpenOffice dictionary extension

"How to"

The OpenOffice extension packages were a tremendous step forward for installing the Khmer spell-checker for OpenOffice 3.0 or NeoOffice 3.0. However, this instruction is going to show you how to un-pack the extension and extract the .dic file for spell-checking goodness in other parts of Mac OSX. For the faint of heart, you can download the finished product here, but the bold DIYers can dive in themselves.

Download the Khmer Spell-Check Extension

You can find it at this link:

http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/dictionary

or download it directly at this link:

Khmer Spelling Dictionary (SBBIC Version)

Rename the File extension

The OpenOffice extension is actually just a zipped file with a .oxt file extension. One method of unzipping it is to rename the file extension and open it like a normal zip file.

To do so, control-click (right-click) the file and select "Get Info"

Change the .oxt extension to .zip and close the "Get Info" window

Confirm the change

Open your shinny new zip file

Double-click to unzip the resulting file

Extract the dictionary files

Open the folder "SBBIC-spellingchecker-OOo.1.1" and then open the folder "dictionaries"

Drag the "km_KH.dic" and "km_KH.aff" files to the desktop. If you like, you can rename them to something more clear.

Clean up the resulting file

Control-click (Right-click) the file and select "Open with" then select "TextEdit"

Delete the first line (which is the word count line), save the file, and close TextEdit.

Now with files in hand, your ready to set your mac up for mispelling with wreckless abandon.

Instructions for displaying pictures in a post

Thanks for replying Vannak
I waited for several days for a reply to my post and when no one responded I gave up. I'm just now seeing your reply.

Could you please post instructions for how to display pictures in a post. I would like to post instructions on how to tweak Mac OS to use more Khmer script, but will need to use pictures to help with the posts. I used the insert/edit image button to insert pictures, but when I posted none of the pictures displayed. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks!
