Packaging

As with proprietary systems, it is important that the system is very easy to install, without the user having to have any advanced computer training. The system, user interface and applications, together with all the information, must be included in one single CD if possible and must be extremely easy to install, even for someone without computer training.

The preparation of the “package” includes the selection of the software that is used (not only last versions of the translated components, but also of other technical pieces of software and utilities that are used by the system, many of them are transparent for the user), including setting up parameters such as default language, etc.

The package must include an installation program that –with instructions in Khmer- will install the software in the user’s computer with the least possible human intervention, and offering the least possible number of options at installation time (options that are not extremely clear to a new user should not be included in the installation, but maybe in a post-installation configuration package).

The package CD will be extensively tested before it is released.

The first 5.000 installation CDs will be manufactured within this project, which will also establish the mechanisms through which new versions will be manufactured and packaged, preferably through collaboration between private Cambodian software companies and the university.

The project will also take charge of printing the first 1.000 copies of all the documentation translated into Khmer, and produce documentation in the necessary format for including it in the CD as well as posting in the web.
